a taste of French Fashion Food

02.23.11

I got a call from Johnny Litton’s PR firm asking me to confirm my attendance to their email invitation for an event. I remember getting an email about it. Thinking it was one of those spam mails, I deleted the email.

It turned out it was an invitation for a cocktail party for Society Lounge to promote the place to events and wedding planners. Lenz and I were supposed to have a coffee date yesterday. I asked her to come with me to this event instead.

We arrived on time, 5PM as stated in the text invite. The place was so posh, yet cozy and relaxing. The perfect venue for company meetings, seminars, client meet ups, and date night…. ;)

It’s divided into 2 areas – the dining area, which is open for lunch and dinner, and the lounge area to have a pre or after dinner drinks.

The food, prepared by Chef Patrice Freuslon, who is also one of the owners, was inspired by French Fashion Food of Paris.

We were first given welcome drinks of Piper Heidsieck champagne… I’m no wine connossier, I am still a newbie in wine appreciation 101, but I like it – crisp and sweet…I think you can’t go wrong with champagne. After finishing my glass of champagne, we were offered red wine and some hors d’oeuvres.

What caught my attention was their lunch menu posted at the entrance…

LUNCH two plates fo Php 488+ …. Huh? 500 pesos lunch for two at this chic place?

For the price, you get two entrees of your choice from this selection - Lamb Shank with dried fruits, Special Beef Burger,Dover Sole Fillet Mandarin Sauce, Pork Medallion Rosemary sauce. With more choices for soups, salad, and dessert.

I made a mental note to come back soon…. for a date night with my felipe…. ;)

Here are some more photos of the event…

jo is happy in a happy gogh

jo is happy in a happy gogh...

Pwedeng pang tongue twister. :)

Last January 22, I signed up to join The Alcove’s photography challenge. I was excited for the event…nervous even.

Over breakfast that Friday, January 21, I told M I’ll be joining the event, that it would be something like an amazing race thing. He asked, “what shoes will you wear?” I was so focused on the photography side, I forgot all about the other necessary stuff…. like footwear. I replied, “my hush puppies shooting shoes”. He said I should wear something more comfortable and apt for running and whole day walking. But my rubber trainers that I used to wear during my gym days had seen better days.

Incidentally, a few weeks ago, I was browsing at fitflop’s website and fell in love with their red clogs. It reminded me of Mario Batali’s orange clogs. Kung si mario may signature orange clogs, si jo naman, red clogs! :P But what kept me from buying the clogs (happy gogh line) was the price….. P4500…. Red clogs or flash? …. Flash or red clogs? ….. red clogs or flash? Hmmm… this is hard…. Argh!

So, I brought M’s attention to the red clogs. The pros – I can use it during shoots too. It’s very comfortable, I can use it more often than rubber shoes, etc. Armed with info from the net, I was prepared.

After he left for work, I went online to check out the clogs again. I texted M about the price. He replied back…”hati tayo?” without hesitation I replied “it’s a deal”.

I called up the fitflop boutique in MOA to check if they have stock. It’s on stock! I asked for my size and told them I’ll be there in an hour. Talk about shopping by phone di ba?

When Pipay arrived from school, she saw the clogs and thought it was hers….. she liked it too. One inch na lang, kasya na sa kanya. :)

When M came home that night, he asked, “why red? “

I like red. :)

of wine glasses...

Come to think of it... I have so much plates, silverware, bowls, for my collection and food photography props, but we don’t have a decent set of wine goblets. We use ordinary glass, or during family gatherings, plastic cups. I have stemware that I use for food photography though.

One afternoon, I was in Megamall to buy pans to replace the old, scratched teflon pan we were currently using, I checked out some wine goblets. For the life of me, I couldn’t distinguish each one from the other. I only know the champagne flutes. I know that the shape of the glass has something to do with the wine’s bouquet. But I’m not a wine person… therefore, I am clueless.

But then again, we don’t entertain guests that often. We would still prefer to use plastic glasses for convenience during get togethers.

But on some occasions that I feel like having wine, I thought it would be different if we drink from a wine goblet instead of using brandy glasses.

So, I bought two wine goblets, meant for reds since that’s what M usually buys. I’ll be able to use it for my food shots too.

We went grocery shopping today. And I saw M bought a merlot. Time to bring out the wine goblets…

hmmm…. ma-try nga if there’s really a wine bouquet thingy… :P
